Asa, Fantastic post! I am in full agreement with your sentiments here. More should be said on how he is going to maintain the status quo. Its shameful to see how many U.S. Blacks are unable to see through this deceptive veil of media packaging.

I think sometimes we who are political scientist or activist sometimes are out of touch with what most people are thinking and feeling. I agree with you when you say that it is sad, and also incredibly foolish, for African Americans to resort to name calling and partisanship because they have different political leanings. We all want the same thing, the upliftment of our people and we should recognize that fact.

By saying he is for the United States of America he is saying he is against the partisanship that has been killing our country for the last 25 years. By saying he is not for Black of White America he is escaping the trap that so many other African American leaders have fallen into where they are unable to see beyond the problems of our own community.

As for his maintaining the status quo, I really don't understand how you came to that conclusion.
He is very different from the candidates of the past, most of his donors gave less than 200 dollars each and are first time donors. And he spent almost two decades working in the ghettos of Chicago. I think it is obvious that he isn't beholden to corporations or the elite. If you prefer someone else or question his policies thats fine, but if the problem is that he doesn't fit an impossible ideal I think it is important that you be reasonable in your cynicism.
