Oh my! The models look stunning, what more if I see them sporting designer clothes in the spreads? I’m definitely gonna look for a back issue on this in the local bookstore, I hope that I’ll be able to find one!

The magazine is on it’s third printing, it is the biggest selling issue of Vogue ever. You can buy issues on Ebay.

I have been looking and looking, each store that I went to expressed that they only received a small amount of the issue. Today August 31, 2008 at 10:00am in the morning I went to Borders on 14th Street, NW in Washington, DC. I looked for the issue and then I asked the sales clerk about the issue and the young man told me that no stores in Washington DC will be getting any more of that issues.

He told me that the Government/FBI pulled the issue because it was very controversial issue so they pulled it and will not be making anymore copies. I don’t know how true this is but it really hurt when I heard them say this.

Hello Melissa:
I understand your concerns (i.e., height, weight, price, etc) but there are many people, be they black or white or in between, that would like to see models of different colours in the latest styles (mainly, color).

Oftentimes, many of the styles are portrayed on rail-thin WASP (White-Anglo-Saxon Prostestants) and there is no comment on whether the color or the style is suitable for all ethnic groups. Having said this, I believe by doing a black-issue of vogue, Vogue Italia is cleansing itself of bias shown toward black models and showing that black models, in general, can and do contribute to the fashion industry.
One prime example is the American version of Project Runway. I’ve seen numerous black models, hooray!

Race aside, I think as fasinonistas, we should look beyond colour, race and see the beauty of the cloth, colours, style and the designers’ interpretattion! Take it or leave it. We still have a choice in America!

I live in Lincoln NE and at least 2 copies are at my local Barnes and Nobles (that’s after I got my 4 covers). So if you know anyone it mid-west states ask them to check for you. Otherwise I hear reprints are being made for the U.S. due to the high demand.

Well it is not going to see well because you cannot buy it anywhere. I have checked Washington dc, virginia, and maryland stores. I am being told by Borders in Silver Spring Maryland that they were invoiced for it but it was not in the box. I have checked Wheaton, Silver Spring, Washington, dc and even the airports in maryland and washington dc. No one has it. Barnes and Nobles is saying they have no idea if they will get it. Now you ask why it might not sell well.

I found a copy today at the Amsterdam Schipol airport. There is also commentary on Ebony and Essence magazines, The Black List that includes Toni Morrison, a story on Spike Lee and many others. Grace Jones is even in this issue.

I look forward to going through it page by page.

I live in Rome and it’s selling well here. All my friends in the States are having trouble getting their hands on a copy. Even in NYC most of the newsstands have sold out.

I hope this is wake up call to all those fashion people who think “black models don’t sell”.

The photos are incredible and it is something to see over 100 pages of black models. There is much diversity in age, complexion and nationality. Some of the up and coming models we should be seeing a lot of soon. Oh wait what am I saying. American magazine (black and white) are too busy putting celebs on the covers instead of model. Boring.

Well, The Italian “Black” Vogue issue was released in New York/New Jersey three days ago and it has sold out in EVERY magazine shop. The stores have long waiting list and hopefully they will reorder. Everyone need to see positive images of themselves. You wouldn’t understand if 99% of ads are all about YOU.

I saw the June issue of Italian Vogue in the Copenhagen Airport today. My news stand in Sweden has had 2 deliveries in two weeks but no July Italian Vogue although it was expected. I am in San Francisco now and will try and fnd it.

the only reason this issue wont sell is if they dont SUPPLY enough copies to meet the DEMAND for it.

Hi Melissa, I don’t think you are saying that because you don’t care about the fashion industry that it’s ok for Black women to be discriminated against in that industry, or that if they are thin and tall it doesn’t matter what happens to them. I am sure that is not what you are saying.

One doesn’t have to be a fan of a certain industry to want Black women to be treated fairly in whichever industry they persue careers. But that’s just my opinion and you are certainly entitled to yours. I’m glad this post motivated you to comment.

I know I am probably going to be flamed for this, but can anyone tell me why I should care about black models in the fashion industry, or the fashion industry in general? I can’t afford those designer clothes, and all of them are extremely thin, which sends off an absolutely terrible image to women about their bodies. Really, how many of you are almost six feet and weigh 100 pounds?

Also, I doubt if any of these models would give me the time of day, so why should I be concerned about whether they have work or not? Perhaps they should get REAL jobs.

This issue is sold out everywhere in NYC. I’ve gone to the small shops that carry international mags and periodicals and each time – they are sold out! It’s awesome. I just hope that I can get one on the next delivery. To just have this issue to show our beauty all over the world is wonderful. I just hope that it continues the trend instead of being a one time splash. If anyone knows a good place to get a copy in NYC, please share.

Hi, reply to Cheryl, I meant the magazine is delayed over here in the Uk. You won’t get your copies in the states just yet but you can find out where it is distributed by contacting the publishers/distributors and then make sure that newstand orders more copies then usual and pre order if you can.

Plus remember even if newstands don’t normally stock it, you can ask them to order them from their suppliers for you as a one off, but they need to do it soon as stocks are limited for circulation abroad and demands are unlikely to be met.

please, please those in the states, make sure your newsagents know about the unprecendented demand there will be for this copy, otherwise you are all going to be dissapointed. Make sure they order the maximum. Right now very few shops were sent it and then only 2 or 3 copies. Other big retailers are still waiting for it and have made attempts to order more after being inundated with requests for it.Even the distributors didn’t really realise how popular it would be and are very inlikely to meet demands. We are still waiting for our copies which may or may not reach the shops until the end of July . Why or why was there such bad planning on getting this copy out to us when all the other international vogue copies are on the shelves?
