@ carissa: While Sweden has many social programs, that does not make it socialist. It is deeply entrenched in capitalist economics, but has a social-friendly government. And your point about who sold the mortgages makes a great case for stronger consumer-protection legislation. When folks have to sign long contracts just for cell phone coverage, that poses a serious problem of leverage. It is even more critical when the instance involves home “ownership.”

@ Desire K: Neo-fascism is when the preparations for a police state are in place. And police states exist more for controlling economic production than for any other reason. Such as DRC. Such as in N Korea. Such as in Bosnia-Herzegovina during the Nineties struggles. And in Liberia and Sierra Leone when Chas Taylor and company ran around for DeBeers and Anglo-American wreaking havoc. The hate they inspire is for an economic reason. To dominate one large group so that a small group can enjoy luxuries and power. So to destroy hate ideology, we have to destroy the motivation, which is making money. Destroy capitalism and hate will rapidly disappear.

Prior to the World War, Hitler and other European Politicians, had started lobbying, planting seeds of Hate against the Jews, they said:These Jews have more than the locals, they must leave our Country.

This campaign went on beyond Germany Borders,from Poland to the Soviet Union, where Jews were now an open target.

Hitler Police and Army travelled to Europeans cities, to persuade Governments to hand over all Jews, as they did this, Nazi Police collected all Belongings of Jews including their Money, counting every bit, and storing them God knows where…maybe Swiss Banks as many said.

When I hear speech of Media, Politicians, some Business People of Europe, regarding the need of giving for example British jobs to British People, seeing National protest in the UK, it can only remind me of Hitler times!Or as a Tutsi myself of Central Africa, it can remind me of the Hate of a Hutu regime of Rwanda that spread propaganda to hate Tutsi as they had too much cows and Lands!

What can we do against Hate ideology?

Krugman seems like a smart guy to me, but I hardly know what to make of economic theories anymore. There are two models of nationalizing banks that I know of: Mussolini’s (fascist) and Sweden (socialist). I am wary of nationalizing banks, too.

I agree with you that greed needs to stop. We need to help one another. I am so tired of hearing everyone blame the poor or the people who got mortgages they couldn’t afford (who offered those products, pushed them, sold them?). My dad lived through the Depression and he believed b/c of Keynesian economics there could never be another. But deregulation destroyed that possibility. When did America become all about money and stepping on people to get it?
