Interesting the post on Black America Always Invests In the WRONG people. At this juncture of our life in the Americas, we have been taught by some of the best EVER! I mean people like Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., El Hajj Malik Shabazz, John Henrik Clarke, Louis Farrakhan, Bell Hooks, Dr. Jewel Pookrum, Queen Afua, Dr Sebi, Marimba Ani, Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Noble Drew Ali, Kwame Ture, Dr. Frances Cress Welsing, and countless Ministers of the Christian and Islamic order, and a whole lot more. And yet, segments of our population continue to languish.
We have all heard them or have had the opportunity to hear them, read them, see their videos, and there remains a segment of the black population that, IMHO want to remain where they are. I say let them stay there. Let them languish. Let them continue to be where they are because this is where they want to be. Stop helping people that appear to not want to help themselves. I say if people want to help others, go to the vocational schools, community colleges, and other areas of higher learning and support students that may be struggling to pay tuituon, struggling to buy books or scrambling for money to get to class. Assist the people who have finished high school, or taken steps to get their GED and assist them in gaining employment. We have to stop coddling those that choose to lay in their own lack.
I made this comment on a post a while ago and took some heat for it:
“…well let me suggest that we employ the mindset of the Spartans…. as seen in the movie “300”. Let’s have a real revolution of thought and practice. Let us create a community of Black/African men and women who from birth are trained to be warriors, and by this I mean have a warrior mentality where their only… I repeat and emphasize, ONLY commitment is to this community.
Two very difficult choices will have to be made for this to work. First, those who can’t or don’t measure up physically, emotionally, spiritually and/or make a real contribution to the community… we cut them loose. So those who are chronic substance abusers, societal and moral deviants (i.e murderers, abusers of women and children, etc.), those who are unteachable, those who cannot/will not develop a community first attitude, those who are weak willed and/or weak minded, and anything else that is an anchor to our progress…. we turn them out. Second, we don’t get hooked into other peoples/groups struggles. Let white women (feminists) fend for themselves. Let the homosexuals fight their own battles for their civil rights. Let the Native Indians (who owned slaves and are more than willing to disentangle themselves from that history) engage the white man in their own struggle. Let the poor white trailer trash agitate for their own political/economic empowerment. F*CK THE RAINBOW COALITION! It’s a burden on our advancement! It should be all about us and ONLY us.
I contend that ONLY by this type of revolution, can we even START to develop a strong and progressive Black/African community. Purification of community values. Single-mindedness of community purpose. Revolution of community focus.”
Asa, I think that you are a vanguard in this perspective. I don’t remember whether I gave you any heat for it or not. However, I know I would have probably doubted within my soul at the time that I could fully relate my thiking to your stand. And, still there are statements in your comment that I am not sure I could live with.
At this time in my life, after reading several perspectives in this vein, I have come to be able to adhere to the basic tenets of your thought process here. Having some understanding that we are truly a global people, understanding that there will always be someone still taking care of the weak and infermed. There will always be those that will have to maintain some form of Rainbow Coalition. And, still those that will continue to educate the “uneducated.” That is good.
Now, I am more willing to understand and accept that harsh times may create a harsh perspective.
Bro. Amenta, I don’t remember specifically what was going on at the time I made this comment, I just remember I was sick and tired of all the Black Revolutionary rhetoric blaming the white man for all our troubles, when we first and foremost need to look within ourselves and be brutally honest and deal with those within our (worldwide) community who have us on a path of self-destruction.
That being said, I have taken a more sympathetic stance than the first choice I advocate. I believe more in nurturing and ministering to the needs of our less fortunate brothers and sisters: Matthew 25: 31-46… however there are some we still need to let go of, instead of coddling and making excuses for them.
I still strongly advocate not getting caught up in other groups issues to our own detriment.
I think many people wil be hesitant to admit that they have already begun to implement the strategy you have mentioned simply out of survival.
Because this is a fight that has to be fought effectively on so many fronts, and one can practically say that it appears to have been to lost, what I recommend is that every conscious person fights the battle they believe to be a top priority.
I think we have already seen this going on with many black women bloggers .
Conscious black men need to wage theirs also.
I read the essay, Certain Signs of Societal Decline by Deneen Borelli of Project 21 and although I recognize some truth in it, I know very well not to take black conservatives seriously.
Black conervatives only criticize blacks and liberal whites who misbehave. Black conservartives are afraid to tackle the root of the problem.
This society was never a principled one from its very beginning; it has always consisted of greedy people pushing their agendas and nasty ways, people who are always ready and eager to spout a a bunch of lies, not even they believed.
What is happeing now is that the venom is all over and there is no end in sight to the madness.
Since the conscious and sensitive minds(los guerreros) will be with us forever and never disappear, as I have said before, those who fall into this category should find a conflict or contradiction they find preplexing or annoying and Wage their own war.

I have learnt not to take those who identify themselves as black conservative or black progressives seriously. They both criticize and demonize other blacks who do not adhere to their form of political (mental) slavery.

@ Ana – this is my sentiment as well
